The Working Environment You Can Expect We are centrally located in beautiful downtown Juneau, close to shopping, dining, hiking trails, and the waterfront. This position is located on the 1st floor of the Alaska Office Building.

Minimum Qualifications Competency-Based Minimum Qualifications Instructions This job class uses competency-based minimum qualifications. Minimum Competencies

Analysis and Assessment:

Principles of Accounting:

Knowledge of GAAP, standards and practices, including the full accounting cycle and preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

Technical Competence:

Applies formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform the job; analyzes and explains technical information and advises others on technical issues.

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.

Competencies mean a combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation. “Typically gained by” refers to the usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job. “Training” and “education” include a range of formal and informal methods.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS

For your application to be evaluated, you must answer the Supplemental Questions. The State of Alaska uses four proficiency levels (Mastery, Fluency, Literacy, Discovery) to measure proficiency for listed competencies. You must rate your proficiency for each competency in the supplemental questions.

Education

To verify education is being used to meet the required minimum qualifications/competencies, fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet the minimum qualifications and are required with each application. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview; transcripts will be required before employment.

Special Instructions for Foreign Education

If education is completed in a foreign college or university, it may be used to meet the above requirements if equivalent credentials are demonstrated by a private organization. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. The omission of required documentation results in an incomplete application.

Work Experience

When work experience is not documented in your application, provide the employer name, job title, dates, and whether full-time or part-time. Applications will be reviewed to determine if minimum qualifications are met. A resume will not be used to determine minimum qualifications.
