Your Role: Art Teacher

As an Art Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative minds of our students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring you are highly qualified and certified, holding a bachelor’s degree and state certification to teach in public schools.
  • Being present and engaged from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, throughout the school year.
  • Providing supervision during class, breaks, meals, and transitions to maintain a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Attending events outside of normal school hours, such as family nights, student performances, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Researching, designing, and documenting art standards and curricula for students in grades K-4/5-8.
  • Teaching Art to all students Monday through Thursday each week.
  • Leading after-school enrichment programs two days a week, if included in the school’s offerings.
  • Coordinating all aspects of the Art program, including working with outside providers and maintaining records.
  • Assisting in the purchase and maintenance of art equipment.
  • Providing orientation on the art program during summer training for all staff.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate academic instruction into Art lessons.
  • Engaging families in their children’s education through art concerts and other events.
  • Participating actively in department and faculty meetings.
  • Leading by example to ensure student mastery of academic standards.
  • Managing the department folder on the school server for easy access to curricular materials.
  • Meeting regularly with the Principal to review results and plan future actions.

  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools is preferred.
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required before starting employment. Certification is not mandatory at the time of hiring, but you must meet New York state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience and educational certifications.
