About the Role: Middle School History Teacher

As a Middle School History Teacher, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team, guiding students to become self-directed learners. Your role will empower students to find their voices and develop into informed global citizens through:

  • Engaging Instruction: Facilitate student-led discussions, encouraging debate and critical thinking.
  • Data-Driven Analysis: Collaborate with your principal and instructional coach to analyze student performance and adapt your teaching strategies.
  • Positive School Culture: Build strong relationships with students and families, fostering a supportive learning environment.
Your Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Facilitate engaging discussions on historical topics, guiding students through open-ended questions and peer debates.
  • Teach an in-house curriculum that highlights diverse histories, including Indigenous peoples, African Americans, and women.
  • Create an inclusive environment where students feel empowered to express their evidence-based opinions.

2. Data Analysis

  • Meet weekly to analyze student work and implement strategies for differentiated instruction.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen and heard.
  • Engage in professional development and collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals.
Qualifications
  • A commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • A collaborative spirit, eager to work with partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks feedback to improve.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience in urban K-12 education preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, or related fields.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; certification is not required at hiring but must meet NY state certification eligibility.
