This role is currently designated as hybrid, which means eligibility for one day of telecommuting work. Hybrid schedules are discretionary and may change throughout the year depending on operational needs.

Job Purpose For assistant director elements of this role: assist the Senior Associate Director for Project Delivery in overseeing projects, supporting multiple staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, participating in planning, budgeting, and contract negotiations, and acting as backup when the Senior Associate Director is away.

For senior project manager elements of this role: manage large and complex projects with high performance risk, drive projects to completion, manage multiple projects of varying sizes, and lead a project team consisting of a project manager and a project engineer. Work is typically 80% project leadership and 20% technical contributions.

Core Duties

Perform the full project management lifecycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high functional integration across multiple disciplines.

Direct development of an action plan and estimate resources (management, labor, materials, time) required to complete the project.

Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive consensus on recommendations.

Develop and help execute a comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; lead change management methodologies underpinning project success.

Scope and risk management for complex, university-wide impact projects, with accountability for budgets up to $10M per project and aggregate scope over $10M.

Minimum Requirements Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related project management experience with size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred technical education in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related fields.

Preferred certification in Project or Construction Management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.

Ability to assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.

Proven project management ability across integration, scope, time, cost, quality, HR, communications, risk, and procurement.

Ability to balance customer expectations with project realities.

Resilience, diplomacy, relationship-building, problem-solving, and impact awareness.

Depth of knowledge in the technical discipline needed to deliver projects.

Preferred experience in engineering, architecture, or construction management.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing/walking, sitting, desk tasks; ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 10 pounds; occasional handling up to 20 pounds; rare handling up to 40 pounds or more.

Valid non-commercial California driver’s license.

Auditory and visual acuity adequate to perform duties (color vision for finishes).

Ability to climb scaffolding, ladders, stairs, etc.

Working Conditions

Work may occur in active laboratories or outdoor environments; exposure to extreme temperatures, high voltage, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise, allergens/chemicals/asbestos, or heavy metals.

May require travel or driving day and night; may work extended hours, evenings and weekends; PPE and cleanroom attire may be required.

Comply with California Vehicle Code and Stanford driving requirements.

Demonstrate interpersonal skills; promote safety culture; follow university policies and procedures.

Pay Range:

175K-185K per annum.
