This contract position spans the non-school year (NSY) period, providing critical communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students during summer sessions and related programs.

Key Responsibilities: Facilitate effective communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, their peers, teachers, and staff by accurately interpreting sign language and spoken language. Support instructional activities and assist with student participation across various classroom settings. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting within the educational context. Collaborate with educators, speech therapists, and other specialists to ensure accessibility and support student learning objectives. Prepare and adjust interpreting strategies based on individual student needs and lesson content. Desired Qualifications and Experience: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills. Previous experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred. Familiarity with educational terminology and procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. Relevant certification or credentialing in sign language interpreting or willingness to pursue credentialing.
