Position Overview
This remote position offers 36 hours per week supporting students with disabilities from elementary through high school levels in virtual educational environments. You'll serve a diverse caseload of approximately 45-50 students, delivering individualized instruction and support through secure, interactive digital platforms designed specifically for special education services. Core Responsibilities
Individualized Instruction & Support Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with diverse disabilities Provide direct instruction in academic subjects adapted for virtual learning environments Create engaging, multi-sensory lessons that accommodate various learning styles and needs Support students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, and emotional behavioral disorders IEP Development & Management Conduct virtual IEP meetings and annual reviews with families and team members Write comprehensive IEP goals that are measurable, achievable, and aligned with state standards Monitor student progress through data collection and regular assessment Collaborate with related service providers to ensure comprehensive student support Behavioral Support & Intervention Implement positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) strategies in virtual settings Develop and monitor behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with challenging behaviors Provide crisis de-escalation and behavioral support during virtual learning sessions Train families in implementing behavioral strategies and supports at home Virtual Classroom Management Create structured, predictable virtual learning environments that support student success Utilize assistive technology and adaptive tools to enhance student access to curriculum Manage virtual classroom behaviors and maintain student engagement through interactive activities Adapt traditional special education teaching methods for effective virtual delivery Required Qualifications
Professional Credentials Master's degree in Special Education or related field Active Michigan special education teaching license Minimum 2 years of special education teaching experience Experience with virtual or remote teaching preferred Technical Requirements Reliable high-speed internet connection with backup options Professional workspace suitable for virtual teaching and confidential meetings Proficiency with video conferencing platforms and educational technology tools Strong problem-solving skills for technology troubleshooting Essential Skills Expertise in special education law, IEP development, and compliance requirements Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices for students with disabilities Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and team members Cultural competency and experience working with diverse student populations Professional Development
