ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL ENERGY & RATEPAYER ADVOCACY DIVISION ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT BUREAU Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated litigation attorney to join the team as an Assistant Attorney General in the Energy & Ratepayer Advocacy Division (ERA). Pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11E, ERA advocates on behalf of the customers of Massachusetts’ electric, gas, and water companies. ERA’s mission includes holding utilities accountable for providing just and reasonable rates; advocating for a smart, cost-effective, and equitable clean energy transition; and protecting consumers from predatory energy companies.
Primary Duties
Lead or co-counsel in litigation before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and federal and state courts. Prepare briefs and other associated litigation and regulatory documents. Conduct in-depth analysis and prepare legal memoranda regarding energy, water, or other regulatory-related topics. Hire and work with subject matter experts; interpret laws and regulations; provide legal advice; strategize and develop case-related action plans; and investigate and prosecute civil energy enforcement cases.
Position Details
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt Hybrid work model with some remote workdays; on in-office days, report to designated office locations in Boston or regional offices. Salary: $87,500 – $130,595, commensurate with JD year and experience

Position Requirements
A member of the Massachusetts Bar. Applicants should have at least one of the following qualifications: At least two years of civil or criminal litigation experience. At least one year of experience in connection with the regulation of gas, electric, and/or water companies. At least one year of regulatory or administrative law experience relevant to the ERA’s work. Additional years of experience in the above practice areas and experience in complex litigation are preferred. Ability to litigate on both policy and technical issues, with emphasis on those involving economic, financial, and accounting issues. Demonstrated ability to learn previously unfamiliar technical concepts quickly. Effective research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Applicants must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and must apply for admission before their start date. Candidates not yet admitted may be hired as ‘Counsel’ and must pass the Massachusetts Bar within one year of their start date.
