An opportunity is available for an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students within a school setting. This contract position spans the full academic school year, providing essential services designed to enhance the mobility, independence, and safety of visually impaired students.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans tailored to the unique needs of students with visual impairments. Conduct assessments to determine each student's level of spatial awareness, navigation skills, and independence. Provide direct instruction and support in cane travel, use of public transportation, and safe navigation of school and community environments. Collaborate with educators, parents, and other specialists to integrate mobility goals with overall educational plans. Maintain accurate records of student progress and communication related to services provided. Participate in team meetings and professional development activities as required. Qualifications: Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent credential. Experience working with visually impaired children in an educational setting, K-12 preferred. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of current best practices in orientation and mobility instruction. Valid drivers license and the ability to travel within the school and community environments. Location:Chicopee, Massachusetts, within a K-12 school environment.
