We are seeking a qualified and dedicated
Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
to provide
remote instructional support
to students with visual impairments in Michigan . This role involves working closely with students, families, and educational teams to ensure access to curriculum, tools, and services that foster academic success and independence in a virtual setting. Key Responsibilities:
Provide
direct and consultative services
to K12 students with visual impairments via online platforms, in alignment with each student's IEP.
Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats such as Braille, large print, audio, or digital formats using assistive technology.
Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments, contributing to comprehensive evaluations and IEP development.
Collaborate with general education teachers, orientation & mobility specialists, and other service providers to ensure appropriate accommodations.
Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals, and participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions.
Provide support and training to school staff and families on strategies and tools for visual accessibility.
Maintain compliance with
Michigan Department of Education
regulations and IDEA guidelines.
Qualifications:
Valid
Michigan teaching certification
with endorsement as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (SV endorsement or equivalent).
Bachelor's or Masters degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field.
Proficiency in the use of assistive technologies and accessibility tools (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, Braille displays, screen magnification).
Experience delivering virtual instruction or using digital learning platforms.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
A secure and reliable internet connection and a suitable remote work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification from the
Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)
is a plus.
Dual certification in Orientation & Mobility (COMS) is highly desirable.
Experience serving diverse populations and rural or underserved communities.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
