A part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) position is available near Schenectady, NY, supporting two students during the 20252026 academic year from September 11, 2025, through June 24, 2026. This role involves working closely with the special education team to help students with visual impairments develop safe, independent travel skills in both school and community settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide orientation and mobility instruction to two students:
Student 1: 6th grade, 10 sessions per year, 1 hour each Student 2: 11th grade, 3 sessions per month, 1 hour each
Collaborate with educators and specialists to integrate mobility goals into students individualized education plans (IEPs) Assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet evolving needs Ensure compliance with required certifications and background checks Qualifications: Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) Experience working with school-aged children is preferred Strong communication and team collaboration skills Valid background clearance and necessary licensure Location: Near Schenectady, NY
