A part-time role is available for an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support two students with visual impairments during the 20252026 academic year near Schenectady, NY. This position focuses on fostering independence and safe travel skills within both school and community settings while collaborating closely with the special education team.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialized orientation and mobility instruction to two students:
Student 1 (6th grade): 10 one-hour sessions annually Student 2 (11th grade): 3 one-hour sessions monthly
Assess students' needs and adapt travel training to promote safety and independence Collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into individualized education plans Monitor progress and maintain accurate documentation according to program guidelines Qualifications: Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) is required Experience working with school-aged children preferred Excellent communication and teamwork skills Valid background clearance and any required licensure Location: Near Schenectady, NY
