Payroll Specialist
Salary is 65,000 - 80,000. Benefits include health insurance, 401k, and PTO. We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join a school district in Union, New Jersey. In this role, you will oversee payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations while supporting the financial well-being of the district's employees. This position is ideal for professionals who excel in payroll administration and are passionate about contributing to the smooth functioning of educational institutions. Responsibilities: Process payroll for all district employees, including data entry, validation, and timely distribution on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax withholding and labor laws. Accurately handle employee deductions and contributions, ensuring timely remittance to relevant agencies. Maintain and update payroll records, safeguarding sensitive employee data in accordance with district policies. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, including issues related to underpayments, overpayments, and tax adjustments. Prepare and generate payroll-related reports to support financial audits, budgeting, and administrative planning. Utilize payroll software to manage operations efficiently, and collaborate with IT for troubleshooting or system enhancements. Address employee inquiries regarding pay stubs, deductions, tax forms, and direct deposit setups with professionalism and clarity. Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a related field. Proficiency in using payroll software, with experience in platforms such as Paycom or similar systems. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including knowledge of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis. Solid understanding of payroll laws and regulations at federal, state, and local levels. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail to handle payroll discrepancies effectively. Excellent communication skills to provide clear and precise support to employees. Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.
