Summary

Performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties of a specialized nature to assist Human Resources staff in accomplishing goals, objectives and mission of the Human Resources and Risk Management Departments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Greets and assists applicants and/or public; answers incoming telephone calls; prepares and types correspondence, memos, reports, forms, requisitions, and other documents; updates and maintains ongoing job descriptions; prepares, copies, distributes and posts descriptions for all job vacancies in a timely manner; processes all job applications/resumes received; processes and reviews new employee paperwork; maintains and updates various files, records, and CDL/DOT audits; processes open records requests; opens and distributes mail; orders office supplies for department; assists Director and other staff with projects as directed; responsible for confidential material.
  • Consults with managers in developing position descriptions and identifying personnel and organizational development needs; compiles and maintains various employee records; may advise management and employees on County policies and procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining identification badge system for County; provide clerical backup relief for Risk Management Department.
  • Assists with the development and presentation of training programs and orientation as needed.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Other Job Functions

  • Makes travel arrangements as needed; performs other job related duties as directed.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; Bachelors degree in Human Resources or other related field preferred; specialized knowledge of secretarial, clerical, and computer functions including experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; 2 to 3 years of job related experience. Experience in a Human Resources office and advanced training/college courses in Human Resources and/or Office Administration desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public personnel administration; knowledge of Federal and State laws relating to employment and labor relations; knowledge of accepted office practices and procedures; advanced computer skills including working knowledge of job related software; ability to read and interpret complex laws and administrative documents; ability to present ideas and recommendations effectively either orally or in written form; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to set up and maintain confidential files; ability to manage routine office details; ability to work with minimal or no supervision; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers and the general public.

Equipment Used

  • Personal computer/mainframe computer terminal, copy machine, FAX machine and other general office equipment as needed.

Work Situations/Demands/Efforts

Work requires organizing; prioritizing; accuracy and attention to detail; flexibility in order to assist with a variety of projects and activities; works in high volume environment. Employee often works independently; develops, interprets and applies policies and guidelines.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a climate controlled office environment.

Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and other hours as required by job demands.

Physical Requirements

Job duties require frequent oral and written communications, use of telephone, personal computer, walking, lifting, and carrying of objects up to 10 lbs.; duties may require occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
