Sterling Search Partners is helping a Birmingham manufacturing client with its search for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing general ledger accounting, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. This role works closely with management to analyze financial data, support audits, and improve processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Prepare and review financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) for accuracy and compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes with variance analysis.
  • Manage accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries.
  • Assist with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to management.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, operations, HR, etc.) to ensure proper financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA preferred).
  • 2-5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
