Job Description The Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation is responsible for providing written tax advice to clients, evaluating and recommending courses of action to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, recognizing potential tax risks, and identifying potential changes in tax policy and regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, business development within their area of expertise, and maintaining key client relationships. Additionally, the Tax Managing Director is a key member of the office’s / region’s Tax Services leadership team, serving as a source of guidance on complex tax questions and issues. Job Responsibilities

Research:

Conduct investigations on relevant topics, analyze facts and sources, prepare tax implication studies, and collaborate with other tax professionals to resolve complex issues. Tax Compliance:

Ensure client compliance with authorities, identify options to minimize tax burdens, manage engagement metrics, and support sales tax compliance services. Tax Consulting:

Handle inquiries from tax authorities, draft responses, monitor project implementations, and provide solutions based on tax knowledge and industry insights. Tax Controversy:

Represent clients before tax authorities and respond to inquiries. Tax Specialization:

Act as SALT industry expert, identify cross-selling opportunities, manage SALT services, and develop tools for practice efficiency. Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109:

Prepare tax workpapers. ASC740-10:

Apply industry standards and firm policies regarding tax standards, recognize and document financial benefits. Strategy Development:

Develop ideas to reduce taxes and expenses, participate in industry groups, lead marketing campaigns and SALT initiatives. Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise daily work of SALT team members, review work, ensure training, evaluate performance, and mentor staff. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relevant field required; Master’s preferred; JD preferred. Minimum 10 years of SALT experience; supervisory experience required; prior tax provision experience preferred. CPA or relevant certification preferred. Skills & Abilities

Excellent communication, analytical, and research skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Leadership skills for managing teams and building client relationships. Additional Information Salary range varies by location, with national range from $157,500 to $420,000.
