Job Description The Tax Managing Director, State and Local Taxation is responsible for providing written tax advice to clients, evaluating and recommending courses of action to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, recognizing potential tax risks, and identifying potential changes in tax policy and regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, business development within their area of expertise, maintaining key client relationships, and acting as a resource for guidance on complex tax issues. The position is a vital part of the office’s / region’s Tax Services leadership team. Job Duties
Research:
Conduct investigations on identified topics, analyze facts, prepare studies of tax implications, and collaborate with other professionals to resolve complex matters. Tax Compliance:
Ensure client compliance, manage engagements, and collaborate on sales tax compliance services. Tax Consulting:
Handle inquiries from tax authorities, draft responses, monitor projects, and provide solutions based on tax knowledge and industry insight. Tax Controversy:
Represent clients before tax authorities and respond to inquiries. Tax Specialization:
Act as industry expert in SALT, identify cross-selling opportunities, manage SALT services, and develop tools to improve service efficiency. Accounting for Income Taxes – SFAS109:
Prepare tax workpapers. ASC740-10:
Understand and apply industry standards related to tax provisions. Strategy Development:
Develop ideas to reduce taxes and expenses, participate in industry groups, and lead marketing campaigns. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise day-to-day work of SALT team members, evaluate performance, and support professional development. Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Accounting or relevant field; Master’s preferred; JD preferred. Minimum 10 years of SALT experience; supervisory experience required; tax provision experience preferred. CPA or relevant certification preferred. Skills & Abilities
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and teams. Additional Information Salary ranges vary by location, with national ranges from $157,500 to $420,000.
