BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC FACILITIES
CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Building Maintenance Worker
for the Department of Public Facilities. Under the direction of the Chief of Public Facilities, the position will perform miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks on municipal buildings and property. This position involves all operations related to the maintenance and care for Public Facilities, including City Hall, Meade Street, Library Buildings, Senior Center, Inspectional Services, Sever Street, and Union Station.
This individual serves as the point of contact for building occupants, vendors, and other Public Facilities staff, is classified as an essential staff person and is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of buildings and grounds.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Clean, vacuum, dust, wash windows, and wet and dry mop tile areas
Clean bathrooms
Maintain grounds
Mow grass
Operate snow blower and shovel to clear snow/remove ice
Collect/remove trash
Change light bulbs
Relocate materials and equipment
Setup and break down of meeting rooms and A/V equipment
Receive deliveries
Monitor HVAC and other building systems
Respond to security alarm calls
Respond to situations: wet/dirty floors, odors, electrical and plumbing issue
Respond to weather related situations and other emergencies requiring immediate attention
Provide assistance with monitoring contractors (cleaning firm) and provide weekly reports
SECONDARY ELEMENTS:
Assist staff with issues involving patrons
Other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Ability to make general repairs
Ability to follow a predetermined schedule and prioritize work
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Ability to use computer and mobile devices as part of the daily workflow.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment ordinarily employed in maintaining the clean and orderly condition of public buildings, grounds and equipment
Regular on-site attendance is required.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma and equivalent
Prior experience with a specialized building trade
Valid Driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and/or custodial environment
One (1) year of experience with electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, or physical plant environment
Experience with municipal maintenance/custodial work
SALARY RANGE:
$22.44 - $27.27 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
SCHEDULE:
Second Shift
Monday - Friday - 3:00pm - 11:00pm
