Job Description The Deputy Clerk to the Board performs difficult skilled administrative support work in the Board of County Commissioner's Office and performs related work as apparent of assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. Prepares agendas for Board meetings, gathers information for meeting agenda packets, posts notices, and notifies Commissioners, appropriate County staff, news media, and other interested parties of dates and times of Board meetings. Attends Board of Commissioners meetings; records and takes notes necessary to author meeting minutes. Prepares resolutions, ordinances, and proclamations for signature; maintains a system to ensure accountability and control. Prepares correspondence in support of the work of the Clerk and Board of Commissioners. Composes and prepares routine correspondence; supports Commissioners in coordinating schedules, coordinates and prepares miscellaneous meetings and events for County Commissioners. Manages Public Records Requests Occasionally performs receptionist duties; greets visitors to the county administration department; assists the public by providing information regarding board actions and records. Maintains website, records, and files. Interacts with other County departments; communicates Board of Commissioners actions to effected departments. Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer. Performs related tasks as required. Qualifications Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques; thorough knowledge of grammar and spelling; general knowledge of the organization and functions of the County government and of general administrative policies and practices; ability to keep involved office records; ability to perform and organize work independently; ability to prepare effective correspondence on routine matters; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully. Work requires a high level of discretion and often requires the use and handling of confidential information.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements Bachelor's degree with coursework in public administration, finance, business, or related field and experience in administrative work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 153A preferred. Special Requirements:
Obtain Certified Municipal Clerk certification within two years of hire. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget and market considerations.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.
NC401k The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 4%.
Vacation Leave Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.
Sick Leave Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
Paid Holidays County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
Teladoc Mental Health Services The County provides Teladoc Mental Health Services to help employees and their families with personal, family and job-related problems such as depression, and substance abuse concerns.
Supplemental Benefits County employees are also offered a variety of supplemental benefits such as Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, 457b Deferred Compensation Plan, and MetLife Supplemental Plans.
