The Perry County Commission is now accepting applications for a fulltime operator/laborer for the Perry County Road and Bridge Department. This individual performs a variety of duties to maintain the county’s roads, ensuring that they are safe for all road users. Duties include, but are not limited to mowing, hand patching, installing road culverts and hauling rock. A Class A CDL is desired, and the ability to operate tractors or loaders and other equipment is preferred.
•Repair potholes by shoveling and compacting cold mix into holes.
•Clear, repair, and replace culvert pipes as required.
•Build forms and pour concrete.
•Remove debris from road surfaces to ensure that roads are safe.
•Remove trash from public areas.
•Replace signs and posts as required.
•Provide assistance in the shop with repairing equipment and vehicles.
•Provide training to more junior staff members.
•Follow all relevant safety procedures while carrying out all tasks.
•Perform other duties as necessary
Qualifications
Class A CDL is REQUIRED• This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.• Must have two to three years of experience in a related role.• This position requires regular equipment and safety training.

Ability to operate tractors or loaders and other equipment is preferred• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work.• Good communication skills, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.• Ability to understand and follow safety policies and protocols.• Strong customer service focus.• Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Will generally work outdoors.• Exposed to very loud noise levels.• Regularly required to work in inclement outdoor weather conditions, and occasionally in extreme hot or cold conditions.• Frequently required to work in an environment where there is a risk of being exposed to oils or hazardous chemicals.• May occasionally be required to work near moving mechanical parts.• May, on rare occasions, be required to work in high, dangerous places and in confined spaces.• May, on rare occasions, be required to work in wet, humid conditions.• May, on rare occasions, be required to work in an environment where there is a risk of experiencing vibration or an electric shock.• Regularly required to work in an environment where there is a risk of being exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
