Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Office Assistant - Bellport. In this role, the successful candidate will provide basic front-desk support for clinical intake operations and may be responsible for pre-authorizations and certifications with the exception of surgical procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Provides reception assistance (greet patients, answer calls, direct inquiries to the appropriate person, screen telephone callers professionally, schedule routine appointments and follow-ups that do not require or have already been pre-authorized, refer inquiries regarding pre-authorizations/certifications to the appropriate person, collect and complete patient-related documents, assist patients in enrolling in Patient Secure if necessary, confirm patient appointments daily and maintain scheduling to ensure no gaps)
  • Responsible for patient check-in and check-out, gathering demographic data, obtaining insurance information, verifying eligibility electronically, collecting signatures on patient documents, and following up to gather missing data to complete the intake process
  • Collect co-pays and other balances owed; scan documents into the intake system; monitor intake work queue for timely completion
  • May be responsible for pre-authorizations and certifications (non-surgical procedures); ensure accurate procedure and diagnosis coding in the pre-certification process and validate information with physicians as appropriate
  • Assist patients with questions regarding insurance coverage; refer financial matter inquiries to the appropriate business office contact based on established criteria
  • Maintain professional relationships with physicians, nurses, and office/clinical staff; type routine materials and ensure accuracy and proper formatting
  • Answer patient questions to support understanding and satisfaction; maintain confidentiality of privileged information
  • Maintain and organize files; manage document distribution, signed forms, and secure signatures according to departmental procedures; handle faxing and space cleanliness; restock supplies and notify supervisor of shortages
  • May assist, provide guidance, and/or train staff with completing intake-related duties

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, strong customer service, and ability to multitask in a team environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, database and internet applications. Light, accurate keyboarding skills.

Preferred Qualifications

6 months physician practice office experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and EPIC Ambulatory.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary: NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state Salary Transparency laws. The stated range for this role is $54,164.99 - $54,165.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
