Progress Careers is part of The Progress Group, comprising six business units that aim to innovate, influence, and inspire through education and training. This centre focuses on providing professional career guidance services to students and, where relevant, others in later career stages, aligning with Gatsby Benchmarks and statutory requirements.

The post involves safeguarding responsibilities and working with young people and schools/multi-academy trusts. The job holder is expected to contribute to and support the overall aims and ethos of the company and participate in training, performance management, and development as required by company policies.

Main Duties

Personal Career Guidance

  • Conduct client-focused, impartial personal career guidance interviews (1:1 and group sessions) to help students/clients make informed, realistic career decisions. Encourage self-awareness, raise aspirations, motivate, and sustain ongoing career conversations.
  • Work closely with career leads in educational settings and maintain client records electronically, including creation and distribution of a guidance summary.

Careers Information

  • Use careers and labour market information to help students/clients identify, access, interpret, and utilise current information, including appropriate use of information technology (e.g., social media, web sources).
  • Organise careers fairs and related activities with the Careers Leader.

Career Guidance Programmes

  • Advise the Careers Leader on resources and the role of providers in delivering the career guidance programme, achieving Gatsby Benchmarks and, where appropriate, the Quality in Careers Standards Award.
  • Facilitate career-related learning activities in groups and support monitoring, tracking, and ongoing support for school leavers, providing timely data to the operational team.

Partnerships and Networking

  • Refer to specialist services for specific needs (e.g., SEND).
  • Engage with external agencies and networks to benefit students/clients and enhance the programme.
  • Involve parents and carers where relevant and attend parents’ evenings as required.

Professionalism

  • Adhere to legislation, codes of practice (e.g., CDI Code of Ethics), and safeguarding measures.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and challenge stereotyping.
  • Reflect on practice and engage in continuous professional development to stay current in the sector.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a passion for careers guidance, enthusiasm, and experience in an information, advice and guidance setting, ideally with young people.

Essential

  • Qualification in careers guidance (level 6 or above) or working towards L6.
  • Experience in an IAG setting.
  • IT literacy (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and capability with other technologies.
  • Ability to work to tight timelines and produce high-quality work under pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple work streams without close supervision.
  • Confidence working across multiple educational settings and presenting to large groups.
  • Proactive, innovative, anticipates issues, and maintains attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior school staff and collaborate with colleagues; GDPR awareness.
  • Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and represent Progress Careers professionally at events.
  • Existing registration on the CDI Professional Register (Desirable).
  • Experience creating learning resources and lesson planning (Desirable).
  • Strong networks and awareness of provision in the geographical area (Desirable).

There is an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to access to children and/or vulnerable adults.
