Volunteer Coordinator

to champion our remote volunteer program and manage our international service program. This is a critical role responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and supporting our diverse team—both domestic and global—ensuring they are engaged, productive, and culturally prepared to advance our mission. Executive Director or Volunteer Operations Manager Position Summary The Volunteer Coordinator designs and manages the entire volunteer lifecycle—from recruitment and placement to ongoing support and recognition. This role is uniquely responsible for maintaining a robust, engaged domestic workforce while

developing and coordinating a safe, impactful international volunteer program

that directly supports our work abroad. Key Responsibilities Domestic Volunteer Management (Remote & Skilled) Recruitment & Matching:

Identify organizational needs and develop targeted strategies for recruiting skilled remote volunteers (grant writers, IT, media specialists). Screen candidates and match them to roles that align with their expertise and WEI's requirements. Onboarding & Support:

Manage the full remote onboarding process, serving as the main point of contact for all general volunteer inquiries and troubleshooting, fostering a welcoming and inclusive culture. Retention & Recognition:

Develop and execute a formal and informal recognition program; maintain accurate records of all domestic volunteer hours and tenure. International Volunteer Program Oversight Program Development:

In collaboration with the Program Director, establish policies, guidelines, and application processes for sending U.S.-based volunteers to support programs abroad. Risk Management:

Ensure all international placements adhere to strict safety protocols, including travel insurance requirements, background checks, and emergency contact procedures. Logistics & Preparation:

Coordinate volunteer placement logistics, including travel planning, orientation, and

cross-cultural training

to ensure volunteers are prepared to work effectively and respectfully with in-country partners. Liaison:

Serve as the contact point between the departing volunteer, the U.S. office, and the international partner regarding placement logistics and expectations. Documentation and Compliance Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all volunteer engagement, including international trip details and service terms in the organizational database. Compliance:

Ensure all volunteer activities, both domestic and international, comply with organizational policies, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements. Qualifications Experience:

Proven experience (paid or volunteer) in

volunteer management, HR coordination, or team leadership . Experience managing volunteers or staff in a

fully remote or international setting . Interpersonal & Cross-Cultural Skills:

Exceptional communication and relational skills;

demonstrated cultural sensitivity

and experience navigating diverse social contexts. Direct experience in coordinating international travel, safety protocols, or risk management for small groups. Organizational Skills:

Highly organized, meticulous in scheduling, tracking, and documentation; capable of handling complex logistical planning. Background or training in international development, HR, or travel coordination. Technical Proficiency:

Proficient with video conferencing (Zoom/Google Meet) and basic spreadsheet software (Excel/Google Sheets). Values:
