General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to deliver patient care as delegated by licensed nurses, physicians, or advanced practice providers. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling. Escort patients, obtain vital signs and EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly. Manage phone communications, route messages, and act as a liaison between patients and providers. Communicate test results to patients, assist with medication renewals and authorizations, and administer medications as ordered. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed. Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation timely. Maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms, and assist patients with electronic health record enrollment and education. Support orientation and training of new medical assistants. Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program or equivalent experience. High school diploma required.
Experience
Preferred: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or medical specialist, ideally in a clinical setting.
Certification and Licenses
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
Requires significant mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
