As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient experiences.

General Summary

The Medical Assistant supports patient care by performing delegated clinical tasks, maintaining organization, and demonstrating professionalism. This position requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, multitasking ability, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling. Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly. Manage communication by routing phone messages, answering patient inquiries, and assisting with physician return calls. Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers. Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals efficiently. Maintain supply inventory, clean and stock exam rooms, and educate patients on electronic health record access. Support orientation and training of new medical assistants. Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and reliability while managing workload under pressure.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is necessary.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not mandatory. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

Preferred certification includes Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is possible. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
