Job Summary
The School Nurse provides essential healthcare services to boarding school students, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. This role includes delivering direct patient care, administering medications, supporting health education, and collaborating with staff to maintain a safe and caring environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide holistic patient care for adolescents, including routine and emergency needs. Perform comprehensive physical and psycho-social assessments to determine appropriate interventions. Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications safely and monitor for effectiveness or side effects. Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, or local hospitals as needed. Support student wellness through first aid, health education, and disease prevention. Maintain accurate and confidential health records, including immunizations and treatment documentation. Complete accident and incident reports as required. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and school health policies. Communicate with kindness, professionalism, and sensitivity in all interactions with students, families, and staff. Prioritize tasks effectively in a busy and sometimes high-pressure environment. Collaborate with other health professionals and school staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment. Utilize strong technology skills for electronic health record management and communication.
Minimum Requirements
Current Registered Nurse license in NJ or a compact license. Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in adolescent care, family medicine, school nursing, emergency, or critical care. Strong assessment, clinical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently with sound judgment and discretion. Must successfully pass state background checks. Prior school or residential nursing experience preferred.
