Overview

Senior Financial Improvement Consultant - Public Sector, Defense at BDO USA. Consultant-level professional providing financial improvement, transformation, and audit support services to US Defense agencies to improve the completeness, accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of financial data in support of obtaining an unmodified audit opinion. Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day client support across audit response and remediation objectives, including audit facilitation, remediation strategy and implementation, communications and change management, risk management and internal controls, financial policy and standardized business practices, financial system posting logic, and FFMI A compliance; support system implementation and transformation audit efforts and capability modernization. Assist management in meeting client project requirements and coordinate with engagement team management and client leadership on planning, execution, and status processes. Deliver professional Federal accounting and auditing solutions and change management support to progress toward an unmodified audit opinion. Typical activities include: Support audit response and liaison efforts with external auditors Participate in audit walkthroughs and site visits to support testing Provide financial audit program strategy, integration, and reporting support Assist with corrective actions and best practices to resolve audit findings Collaborate with client stakeholders to understand system, process, control, and data needs for financial improvement Provide training, change management, and communications support for audit readiness, response, remediation, and sustainment Assist with risk assessments, processes and controls documentation, controls testing, and gap addressing Support accounting and financial reporting operations, standardization, analysis, data calls, and compiling financial statement information Conduct accounting standard research Assess system compliance with FFMIA and control frameworks; support design or operating effectiveness testing Review assets, supporting documentation, and system records; assist transformation from legacy to integrated systems or processes Develop written reports, in-progress reviews, metrics, dashboards, presentations, deliverables, and status reports Participate in client and internal team meetings Manage priorities, initiate correspondence, and coordinate multiple efforts; communicate status and demonstrate ownership of tasks Attend trainings to maintain technical skills aligned with client needs Assist with recruiting by identifying and referring potential candidates Other duties as required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, IT/Systems, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science, or equivalent with relevant certifications Four or more years of Federal or commercial financial management experience; two or more years of Federal or commercial accounting experience preferred Experience with OM&S, Inventory & Related Property, or Environmental & Disposal Liabilities; preferred experience with auditing or SSAE 18/SOC 1 remediation; environmental liability estimates for E&DL preferred Experience with financial statement audits or audit readiness; FIAR guidance, GAAP, USSGL, FASAB, CFO Act, FMFIA/FFMIA/ICOFR, GAGAS, OMB Circulars preferred Experience with DoD financial management policies and procedures preferred DoD policies, systems, and procedures for personnel or acquisition preferred Minimum Secret level security clearance; active/current certifications such as CPA, CISA, CGFM, CDFM or equivalent degree Software

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to travel for project-related needs Knowledge of Inventory & Related Property accounting standards (SFFAS 3 and 48), SSAE 18, and related audit/internal control requirements Knowledge of environmental laws and financial requirements (CERCLA, DERP, RCRA, SFFAS 5/6, TR2/11) Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Ability to own work product, follow instructions, and coordinate with team members across organizations Ability to work independently and in a team with a customer-service focus; strong organizational skills Individual salaries are determined by qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Illinois Range: $70,000 - $90,000; Maryland Range: $70,000 - $90,000; Washington DC Range: $70,000 - $90,000. About Us
