Overview
This full-time staff psychiatrist position is in the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) team at the VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service (VANTHCS MHS) in Fort Worth, TX. Core responsibilities include providing integrated mental health care in primary care clinic settings through collaboration with primary care physicians and primary care nurses, triage services to Veterans new to Mental Health, consultations with primary care physicians, brief mental health assessments with time-limited follow up for Veterans not established in specialty mental health, and education for veterans, nurses, and mental health staff about behavioral health issues.
The incumbent will be skilled in general outpatient psychiatry, including diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy, and capable of managing a broad range of clinical problems (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and psychiatric disorders in the elderly Veteran population). The role involves serving as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary mental health team and may provide clinical supervision for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists.
Responsibilities
Provide integrated mental health care in primary care settings in collaboration with PCPs and nurses.
Conduct triage and initial mental health assessments for Veterans new to Mental Health services.
Consult with primary care physicians and provide short-term follow-up for patients not established in specialty mental health.
Educate Veterans, nurses, and mental health staff about behavioral health issues.
Perform diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy management, and psychotherapy as part of outpatient psychiatry.
Manage a broad range of clinical problems including PTSD, mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and geriatric psychiatric issues.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary mental health team; provide clinical supervision as appropriate.
Qualifications
General outpatient psychiatry expertise with skills in diagnostic evaluation, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy.
Competence in treating a broad range of conditions across a diverse Veteran population.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
