The primary duty of the Construction Management Business Class Director is to provide strategic national focus on positioning HDR as a preferred provider for construction services in the water infrastructure industry. The Director provides Business Group wide leadership regarding CM business development, project delivery and group leadership/communications. The Director shall capture and codify best practices, tools, templates, protocols, and other intelligence to sustain successful Construction Management delivery across the entire Business Group. This position reports to the WBG Service Delivery Director.
Responsibilities
Business Development: Maintain market intelligence regarding industry competition, potential partners, acquisitions and/or new hires.
Capture HDR and competitor SOQs, proposals, presentations, scopes of work with associated fees.
Ensure all regions maintain CM pursuit target lists and Client Maintenance plans for CM delivery.
Support capture planning efforts, preproposal visits, qualifications and proposal preparation to create a formulaic approach to HDR CM business development and client interaction.
Provide marketing support on all pursuits to elevate HDR’s selection hit rate.
Maintain a list of Major CM or PM/CM or OA/CM Projects and promote best practices/tools across the Business Group.
Maintain Tool Kit and related SharePoint sites; promote best practices/tools across the Business Group.
Implement Presentation/Interview training workshops for all Senior Construction Managers.
Project Delivery
Capture and disseminate relevant CM delivery lessons learned as necessary.
Ensure use of HDR best practices, procedures, templates and protocol for consistent CM delivery coast to coast.
Collaborate with other Business Class Directors on delivery of projects and long-term tactical plans for the water construction services program.
Provide principal level project management and issue resolution when needed.
Track and trend actual project delivery costs against budget and incorporate lessons learned into future scope/fee development.
Maintain list of CM/CI resources and availability and provide CM resource planning across the Business Group.
Lead PARR reviews for projects entering the construction phase; train staff to be Lead Reviewers and attend reviews as needed.
Perform occasional project site audits to ensure proper Construction Management protocol and address performance with the Owner.
Promote the use of RAKEN Field Reporting App; manage licenses and coordinate with stakeholders for renewals and procurement.
Promote and administer Newforma Construction Administration (Newforma CA) for managing workflows and dashboards; coordinate with key contacts.
Serve as the WBG point of contact on questions related to CMIS.
Update and maintain HDR Construction Management Manual, CM Procedures/Forms & Field Checklists; ensure CM access/use across the Business Group.
Construction Management Leadership and Communications
Reinvigorate CM Practice Community; plan regular CM Practice calls and broadcast wins, lessons learned, and information.
Collaborate with Field Services Communications Director, Construction Services Director, other BIM CM Directors, SH&E Director, Field Services Client Development Lead, Project Controls Director, and other stakeholders.
Lead CMAA engagement; represent HDR as a CMAA member and participate in related activities and nominations; maintain CCM designation awareness.
Ensure WBG CM staff development; maintain and develop CM training plans, protocols, and sessions.
Qualifications
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or Engineering with 15+ years of experience in managing construction delivery programs for the water infrastructure industry.
PE or related professional certifications are desirable.
Location: This position can be located in any HDR US office.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field
Professional registration and related technical experience
Experience in development and management of diverse teams
Ability to work cooperatively with other Business Class Directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers
Commitment to quality, continuous improvement and HDR values
Active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture
