Overview
DOT&PF Bridge Section in Juneau is seeking an Engineer/Architect 1 / Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1 Flex (Bridge Engineer). Base Salary Information: Engineer/Architect 1: 3633.00 biweekly (OT Ineligible); Technical Engineer 1/Architect 1: 4158.75 biweekly (OT Ineligible). Responsibilities
Perform structural engineering analysis and calculations to determine the safe load carrying capacity of bridges, evaluate overloaded (permit) vehicles and identify weight restriction requirements (load posting values). Complete bridge safety inspections, including routine, nonredundant steel tension member inspections, low water, and in-depth inspections. Some bridge management and bridge design and retrofit tasks may be involved. Organization, Mission, and Culture
The DOT&PF Bridge Section provides design services for new bridge and bridge rehabilitation projects, and services related to the existing inventory of the State\'s 1,000 public highway bridges. Travel within the state is expected (usually 2–4 trips per year, up to two weeks per trip). Candidate qualifications may include any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates core competencies: Structural Engineering:
Knowledge of design and analysis of complex structures using various materials; experience may include aerospace systems or other determinate/indeterminate systems. Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
Logical, systematic approach to addressing problems or opportunities; ability to apply knowledge and resources as needed. Written Communication:
Clear, concise, organized, and convincing written communication. Special Notes
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) or Architect is required. Travel within the State (typically 2–4 trips/year, up to two weeks per trip). Bridge inspections may require under-bridge inspection truck or lift access. Qualifications
Engineer/Architect 1 Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect. Note: Employer will designate required professional field for each position. Alaska registration or comity with AS 08.48.191(b) required within one year of hire. Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1 Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, plus two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1, Architectural Assistant 3, or higher with Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
