is seeking candidates for Engineer/Architect 1 / Technical Engineer 1/Architect 1 Flex roles. Base salary information is provided below. Base Salary Information: Engineer/Architect 1: $3,633.00 biweekly (OT Ineligible) Technical Engineer 1/Architect 1: $4,158.75 biweekly (OT Ineligible) What you will be doing
You will perform structural engineering analysis and calculations to determine the safe load-carrying capacity of bridges, evaluate overloaded (permit) vehicles and identify weight restriction requirements (load posting values). You will also complete bridge safety inspections, including routine, nonredundant steel tension member (NSTM), low water, and in-depth inspections. Some bridge management and bridge design and retrofit tasks may be involved as well. Our organization, mission, and culture
The DOT&PF Bridge Section provides design services for new bridge and bridge rehabilitation construction projects, and a broad range of services for the state’s inventory of 1,000 public highway bridges. We work to support our Department’s mission to Keep Alaska Moving through Service and Infrastructure. We offer a 37.5-hour work week, flexible schedules, flex leave for hours over 37.5 per week, and salary increases based on time served. The position is located in Juneau (Alaska DOT&PF Headquarters). Travel within the state is possible (normally two to four trips per year up to two weeks per trip). Hybrid teleworking is available after probation per department policy. Travel may include small plane, boat, or ATV. Bridge inspection from under-bridge inspection trucks or lifts may be required. Who we are looking for
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the core competencies: Structural Engineering : knowledge of design and analysis of complex structures using various materials. Structures may include aerospace systems or other determinate/indeterminate systems. Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving : logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities, drawing on knowledge and resources as needed. Written Communication : clear, concise, organized, and convincing writing for the intended audience. Special Note: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer This position includes travel within the State (normally two to four trips per year, up to two weeks per trip). Travel may include small plane, boat, or ATV. Bridge inspection from under-bridge inspection trucks may be required. Qualifications
Engineer/Architect 1 Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect. Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect; the employer will designate which field is required. Special Note:
Persons not registered in Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). They must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment. Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1 Registration as a professional engineer (PE) or professional architect, and two years of professional engineering or architectural experience as an Engineer 1, Architectural Assistant 3 or higher in Alaska or equivalent elsewhere. Special Note:
Persons not registered in Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). They must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment. Additional Information
