Overview
Job Summary: This is an inpatient position within Saint Francis/St Mary’s Hospitals Rehabilitation Services department. The Staff Occupational Therapist (Occupational Therapist 2) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The role primarily serves adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. With specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience, the Staff Occupational Therapist may also work with infants, children and/or adolescents. Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed approved provider written referrals, the Staff Occupational Therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive, visual/perceptual, psychosocial, and developmental tests and measurements; establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs; and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques. The Staff Occupational Therapist demonstrates practice competence managing patients of varying clinical acuity and complexity. The role may involve seeking mentoring for novel clinical presentations or areas of specialty practice for which the therapist is not experienced or certified. The Staff Occupational Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care, is organized in work habits, and demonstrates effective time management skills. The position may supervise Occupational Therapy Students, Occupational Therapy Doctoral Fellows, and Rehabilitation Aides. The role participates in regular professional and clinical development activities (40 hours or more per year) and may lead compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives within the department, local care setting, and organization. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Plan and administer occupational therapy services for patients with physical and cognitive impairments. Conduct patient evaluations using appropriate tests and measurements. Establish therapeutic goals, develop intervention programs, and implement treatment plans. Demonstrate competence in managing patients with varying acuity and complexity. Possibly mentor colleagues or seek specialty mentorship as needed. Document patient care accurately and maintain organized records. Supervise students, fellows, and rehabilitation aides as assigned. Participate in professional development and may lead quality and safety initiatives. Required Qualifications
MS or MA degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program. Minimum one year of licensed practice experience. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to recognize signs of distress. Basic computer skills including experience with Epic electronic medical record. Good interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and self-initiation skills. Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program. Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF settings. Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team. Licenses/Certifications
Licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California (possessing or eligible). AHA BLS certification (possessing or eligible). About UCSF
