Under the direction of the Executive Director of School Nutrition, functions as the operations manager for School Nutrition within the schools. Monitors and directs the various food programs and oversees and manages the performance of field personnel. Assures that the nutritional and program goals established by DPSCD School Nutrition and federal and state agencies are implemented and maintained. Establishes menus, maintains food inventories and assures compliance at the school level. Provides training and works to establish new programs through a wide network of public and private contacts. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in institutional food service management, food and nutrition, business administration or a related field. Serve Safe Certification Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in School Nutrition or administrative management, preferably in a public school district Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License Substantial knowledge of the laws, regulations and professional practices associated with food services and nutritional requirements established by the federal government. Skilled in compiling management reports and grants reporting; skilled in implementing diverse programs and services, and directing the utilization of personnel, equipment and other resources Ability to communicate effectively, present ideas and concepts orally and in writing, and make presentations in a public forum Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, professional contacts, school district officials, and the public Ability to critically assess situations, plan and implement plans, and work effectively under stress, with deadlines and changing priorities Ability to attend meetings scheduled at times other than normal business hours and travel to other locations Microsoft 365 power user (Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive, Forms) for knowledge hubs, SOPs, and field communications; basic PDF tools for forms/packets Advanced Excel/Google Sheets Experience administering K-12 cafeteria tech at scale (50+ sites), including POS accountability systems (e.g., LINQ/TITAN, Primero Edge, Mosaic/OneSource, Meals Plus) Essential Functions

Direct supervision of food service field operations; supervises Area Managers and all school-based food service personnel. Evaluates performance and initiates program, menu, and reporting changes as needed. Ensure adequate training and development of school-based staff. Develops training programs and leads professional development. Ensure application of school meal standards for all foods served or sold; perform menu planning and ensure compliance with food patterns and point-of-service accountability. Implement grant and other food programs; write specifications for products, order food, and monitor compliance. Maintain purchasing systems and supply chains in line with USDA and state guidelines. Interface with community groups to develop school-based programs; assist in identifying learning materials for students. Prepare and submit documentation to federal and state agencies regarding inventories, reimbursements, nutrition, and grant conditions. Oversee the summer feeding program; train and deploy staff to meet needs. Keep abreast of legislative developments and attend appropriate conferences and training. Lead daily operational planning for 100+ sites; monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions. Manage food safety and sanitation systems, HACCP/SOPs, temperature logs, inspections, and recalls. Own administrative review readiness (NSLP/CACFP/FFVP/SFSP); lead internal monitoring and address findings within timelines. Oversee inventory and distribution systems, including FIFO, surplus management, USDA foods utilization, and route optimization. Assist with CEP implementation and ensure POS accountability. Assist with staffing models, scheduling, and labor deployment; partner with HR on recruitment and attendance management. Establish SOPs and conduct field audits; coach to close skill gaps. Collaborate with principals and operations on bell schedules, cafeteria flow, and space utilization to improve throughput and student experience. Ensure Civil Rights Compliance and address complaints. Lead continuous improvement projects using data and stakeholder feedback; pilot innovations and scale proven practices. Conduct investigations into operational incidents and implement preventive measures. Coach Area Managers to build leadership bench and development plans aligned to district goals. Performs additional tasks as assigned. Security Clearance
