Overview

Remote Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Labor Center, oversee the organization’s research programs and provide on-site research guidance and management to Labor Center-related field sites across diverse regions to support research activities with partners in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Develop, manage, and implement the Labor Center’s research initiatives; collaborate with the Executive Director to enhance research, policy analysis, and grant development in support of unions and community organizations.

Participate in strategic planning of research programs with principal and field/site collaborators.

Nurture the development of up-and-coming researchers from diverse backgrounds and expand the research capabilities of collaborating organizations.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) in social science, humanities, public administration, public policy, urban planning, labor studies, or related fields.

Minimum of two years of experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research with increasing levels of responsibility.

Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific computer application programs.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; experience working with diverse populations in person, in writing, and on the telephone.

Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound proposals/analyses; proven ability to write reports, correspondence, and spreadsheets and to use reporting software.

Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes; proven ability to work in a busy environment in a timely and effective manner.

Strong policy analysis techniques.

Proven ability to work in ambiguous conditions and take relevant, responsible action as required.

Proven experience and knowledge of program evaluation.

Proficient in maintaining thorough files and confidential records according to research practices and protocols.

Proven ability to coordinate and run focus groups.

Proven ability to manage and facilitate students and/or interns.

Special Conditions

Must be willing to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate community needs and events. Pay Transparency

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 - $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 - $61.02 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
