Per Diem Dermatology Technician III provides supportive patient care functions for Dermatology and other assigned clinical area, under the supervision of a Physician, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards. Some duties may be delegated to the Sr. Dermatology Technician by the physician or RN. This position will serve as the primary support for an assigned Dermatologist. The Technician requires additional duties which include demonstrating knowledge and scribing of medical terminology to assist in documentation during Dermatology office visits and/or procedures. The technician can be asked to scribe for physicians (history, physical, patient instructions, pending orders). In addition, the technician may also be asked to administer injectables and/or other high level skill performance: Perform phototherapy treatment/excimer laser treatment, Set-up/assist with procedures, sterile field, and/or cosmetic procedures, removal of sutures, Ipledge/isotretinoin patient education, registration in ipledge, apply patch testing for allergic contact dermatitis, sterilize instruments, and manage pathology log to make sure all results received and given to patients/treatments done. Primary Responsibilities
Scribe
Under the direct supervision of the RN Supervisor or Coordinator, this position is responsible for all real time charting for the physicians The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through ambulatory clinics and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient Accurate documentation and spelling of Dermatology verbiage In accordance with policy, prepares and assembles medical record documentation/chart for physician prior to and during patient visit Ensures all documentation is accurate and timely The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the medical history-taking and exam, recording patient's histories and chief complaints, transcribing physical exams, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including physician assistants, and recording plans for follow up care.
Patient Care
Monitor in basket for orders placed by physician and perform tasks that need to be completed (i.e., waived testing, EKGs, specimen collection, spirometry, hearing, vision); reports and accurately documents patient response Document observations related to health status and report findings Rooms patients on arrival as rooms become available: Obtain patient demographic information, history, chief complaint; Verify patient allergies and documents vital signs per policy; Reconcile medication list with patient at each visit and update preferred pharmacy; Document patient education to include learning method, language, interpreter needs, and appropriate education for the office visit; Complete questionnaires when appropriate (e.g., lead, TB, flu, New Patient Intake)
Prepares patient and room for physician visit
Assist physician with preparing patient for examination and minor office procedures Perform activities of daily living on patients as needed (e.g., ostomy bag care, diaper changes) Transport patient within facility as needed Performs/Obtains: EKG, Waived Testing, Hearing & Vision Testing, Sterilization of Instruments Collects & prepares lab specimens and transports to lab Perform CPR as needed and assist during times of emergency
Clerical
Review doctor’s schedule, abstract as needed, print PVS for each patient and request other relevant information needed for the visit Prepare and submit patient documents for scanning Monitor assigned inbox and complete overdue results/letters Schedule appointments and assist patient with specialty referrals and radiology testing Provide pre-printed patient educational material as directed by provider; ensure proper disposal of confidential patient information; follow HIPAA policy and procedures
Department Maintenance
Monitor supplies, medications and forms and notify appropriate staff when reorder is needed Remove and tag broken equipment and notify coordinator, supervisor, or manager Cleans exam rooms daily and documents on log Monitor supplies for expiration date and restock to par levels Perform sterilization of instruments and complete logs Attend staff meetings; maintain a clean and organized work area
QA-Regulatory
Complete daily logs as assigned by nursing staff (waived testing CLIA standards, refrigerator/room temperature logs, eye wash station, other QA logs) Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation; maintain patient confidentiality Practice OSHA safety standards with proper disposal of biohazard waste Use frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer to prevent disease spread; use gloves and PPE as needed; use aseptic technique as needed Verify equipment has a current PM label before use; identify and report barriers for safe patient care
