Position Summary
The
Accounting Manager
will oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, including those specific to 501(c)(4) organizations. This role is responsible for managing month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting support, and working with external auditors. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, experience with restricted funds, and deep knowledge of compliance requirements unique to 501(c)(4) operations. Key Responsibilities
Manage daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger Oversee and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards Maintain compliance with all 501(c)(4) IRS and regulatory reporting requirements Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and 990 filings Develop and monitor internal controls to safeguard financial assets Support budget preparation and financial planning in collaboration with leadership Supervise junior accounting staff and/or outsourced accounting support Work cross-functionally with program, development, and operations teams to ensure proper fund tracking and reporting Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required) Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization Strong understanding of nonprofit GAAP, 501(c)(4) compliance, and fund accounting Experience managing audits and IRS Form 990 filings Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities Preferred Qualifications
CPA or MBA Familiarity with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) structures and how they interact Experience with grant tracking and donor-restricted funds Prior experience supervising accounting staff Seniority level
