RN Clinical (Infusion) - Newport Beach-HemOnc TC - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union) – Keck Medicine of USC, Hospital, Newport Beach, California. As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Infusion Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of patient care and education to the patient and family in accordance with the standards, policies, and practices in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. The Infusion RN provides therapeutic care to patients in the outpatient setting with an emphasis on administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, and blood products. This role may float to various locations to meet coverage and volume needs and learn the workflows of different locations. Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Follows policies and procedures: demonstrates ability to access online manuals and references Transfers learned scientific knowledge into practical application in applying the nursing process Assesses and appropriately completes nursing assessment and screening upon patient arrival to receive therapy Interprets assessment information and formulates nursing diagnoses Maintains problem list, medication list and allergies list Administers medications and chemotherapy/biotherapy as ordered, safely and efficiently, following policy; delegates tasks based on others’ scope of practice and competency; acts as patient advocate for effective management of side effects Ensures complete and accurate documentation on all forms; conducts assessment and screening at each appointment including pain scale and review of possible side effects; obtains consents for invasive procedures and administration of blood products; double-checks and documents medications Provides patient and family education as needed based on treatment plan or changes in condition Maintains clinical equipment (BP machine, IV infusion pumps, continuous patient monitor) and monitors equipment alarms; identifies and notifies appropriate department about defective equipment Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, patient, and family; triages phone calls; uses SBAR Manages time effectively; organizes and prioritizes responsibilities; adheres to breaks policies Adheres to regulatory agency requirements and safety standards (National Patient Safety Goals, two patient identifiers, time-outs, medication reconciliation, HIPAA/OSHA, JCAHO readiness, etc.) Identifies and participates in data collection and process improvements Participates in professional development activities and may contribute to patient education materials Performs additional duties as assigned; maintains professional certification where applicable Required Qualifications
BSN required upon hire 2 years RN experience in a related healthcare setting Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing) Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform duties including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures per policies Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing or related field, or in progress Oncology-focused experience strongly preferred Experience administering chemotherapy and/or other infusions Required Licenses / Certifications
Registered Nurse (CA Board of Registered Nursing) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy certification (must obtain within 90 days if not held at hire) Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – obtain within 30 days of hire (maintained by renewal; required within LA City) Oncology specialty certification preferred The hourly rate range for this position is $53.00 - $87.45.
