Reporting to and partnering with the Vice President of the Cancer Destination Service Line (DSL), this is a unique opportunity at Stanford Health Care to lead Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in designated inpatient and outpatient services lines within the Center for Advanced Practice. Stanford Cancer Center offers advanced medical expertise with collaborations across the Stanford Cancer Institute, focusing on science, humanity and compassion. SHC is internationally recognized for cancer care, research and technology, including NCCN membership and Magnet designation. This role provides strategic and operational direction for APP practice, oversees staffing and APP leadership, and supports APP-led care models across the service line. What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Responsible for the hiring, onboarding and management of Service Line APPs in collaboration with Service Line operational and medical leadership and the Center for Advanced Practice. Allocate staffing to ensure appropriate coverage during transitions, leave of physicians or APPs, and coordinate independent practice while monitoring quality of care. Oversee the quality of clinical practices and procedures for Staff APPs and Lead APPs in collaboration with medical leadership. Collaborate with operational managers to implement and evaluate new programs with division/service physicians and hospital/clinic leadership. Determine staffing standards, scheduling practices, and productivity guidelines; monitor and adjust as needed. Manage patient care, human resources, systems and workflow to achieve and maintain budgetary considerations. Provide strategic oversight of APPs within a Service Line/Destination Service Line, advancing APP-Faculty care models across SHC and network/affiliate partners. Support research and participate in clinical trials with faculty and research staff. Align with national trends in APP-led care pathways and design/monitor APP-led care models across the care continuum. Participate in Interdisciplinary Practice and other APP leadership committees; mentor Directors, Managers, Lead APPs and staff APPs. Establish organizational structure for APPs and foster a collaborative culture within the service line. Work with the Center for Advanced Practice and Nursing Shared Leadership to develop hospital-wide APP initiatives. Communicate goals, develop implementation plans, and operationalize quality improvements in patient care. Collect, analyze and synthesize clinical, quality, financial and outcomes data to inform decisions. Serve on leadership committees and provide updates to promote necessary changes and report on quality/outcomes data. Manage a large portfolio of APPs across service lines/sites with significant scope and complexity. Responsible for national accreditation and other quality standards of APP practice across service lines. Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. Five (5) years of experience managing and leading programs, work units or departments of comparable size, scope and complexity. PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure or NP - Nurse Practitioner or CRNA or CNS. Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated staff supervision and ability to plan, assign, develop training, motivate and discipline as needed. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, medical practice guidelines, and APP roles. Ability to lead, promote positive change and collaborate across the health system. Experience solving complex problems under stress and crisis situations; effective communication with APPs, patients, families, physicians, and leadership. Ability to prepare reports and presentations; proficiency with standard business software. Experience leading in clinical areas of expertise and navigating hospital operations to support patient populations. Understanding of leadership and management principles, regulatory/accreditation requirements, HR management, program planning, and financial management. Ability to build relationships and lead with influence across SHC, SOM faculty, UMP Physicians, and operational leaders; strong verbal and written communication skills.
