Overview

Hematology-Oncology Physician position at the Caribbean VA Healthcare System within the Medicine and Specialty Care Service. The ideal candidate will contribute to quality care standards and the growth of a VA academic hospital program. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential in a growing medical center. Responsibilities

Provide hematology-oncology care for inpatients and ambulatory patients in the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. Lead a multidisciplinary team including cancer navigator, bone marrow transplant coordinator, social worker, data manager, pharmacist, dietitian, nursing and other personnel. Supervise fellows, residents and medical students. Deliver high-quality patient care in a resource-efficient manner. Manage hematology-oncology conditions in outpatient clinics and inpatient units (including ward and consultations). Perform hematology-oncology procedures and related responsibilities such as peripheral smears, bone marrow procedures, flow cytometry/cytogenetics interpretation, intrathecal chemotherapy, chemotherapy administration, and related assessments. Participate in active research and educational activities (seminars, journal clubs, cancer conferences, grand rounds, tumor boards, etc.). Adhere to VHA regulations and professional standards; promote continuous quality improvement; contribute to VISN/VHA mission; maintain positive relationships with colleagues and affiliated medical schools. Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Schedules are determined by the supervisor and may involve various shifts based on facility/patient care needs. Requirements

Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy. Pre-employment urinalysis for illegal drug screening; refusal results in denial of employment. Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Probationary period may be required. Subject to background/security investigation. Online onboarding required. Acceptable ID documents required for I-9. REAL ID compliance required after May 7, 2025. Pre-employment physical examination required. Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all HCP. Qualifications

United States citizenship as noted above; education: MD or DO from an approved school. Current, full and unrestricted medical license in an US state/territory/DC. Residency in Hematology and Medical Oncology; board eligibility or certification required; faculty status may require board certification for academic appointment. Board Certification in Hematology and Medical Oncology is required. English language proficiency: must be proficient in spoken and written English. Selective Placement Factor: Proficiency in basic written and spoken Spanish in addition to English. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from LCME- or ACGME-accredited schools. If foreign-trained, ECFMG certification verification is required as applicable. Physical Requirements

Must pass pre-employment physical; ability to lift up to 44 lbs, carry up to 15 lbs, frequent reaching, standing/walking up to 8 hours, bending, climbing; ability to hear whispers. Additional Information
