Summary

North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Medical Specialty Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Hematologist-Oncologist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or licensing requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.

Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.

Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency in Hematology and Medical Oncology leading to board certification eligibility.

Board certification in Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Additional: Adjunct faculty position at the University of Florida is expected.

Physical Requirements: Must pass a VA pre-employment physical, capable of moderate lifting, standing, bending, and hearing whispers.

Duties

Provision of outpatient care and consultation for hematology/oncology diagnoses.

Prescribe and oversee cancer therapeutics including chemotherapy, biologics, and immunotherapy.

Perform physical exams, review medical data, and order diagnostic tests.

Document observations and collaborate with healthcare team members.

Evaluate and monitor patients on hematologic and oncologic therapeutics.

Work with a multidisciplinary team, including other specialists and primary care providers.

Supervise medical students, residents, and fellows.

Follow VA policies and directives.

Use computer skills to access and input data into the CPRS.

Establish professional relationships with other providers and participate in quality improvement activities.

Attend mandatory meetings and CME activities.

Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
