Buyer - Raw Materials (Nutraceutical Manufacturing)
Pay: DOE Department: Purchasing / Supply Chain
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Buyer with a strong background in sourcing and purchasing raw materials, ideally within the Nutraceutical Manufacturing industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, negotiating, and procuring materials, products, and services that meet quality, pricing, and delivery standards, while building and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to carry out the following responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential vendors. Negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best combination of quality, cost, delivery, payment terms, and service. Evaluate supplier quotes and capabilities to select the most reliable sources. Manage procurement of raw materials, equipment, and supplies aligned with production needs. Issue and manage purchase orders; ensure timely delivery and PO accuracy. Create and manage RFQs/RFPs to qualify suppliers; collect and forward Supplier Questionnaires and Quality Agreements to QA for approval. Conduct regular supplier follow-ups to avoid delays or disruptions. Analyze supply chain performance using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Access. Collaborate with Quality Control to resolve issues with non-conforming products or missed delivery timelines. Maintain clear and proactive communication across internal teams and external suppliers. Estimate product values using market knowledge and current pricing trends. Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred. Experience:
Previous purchasing experience, preferably in Nutraceuticals or a similar regulated manufacturing industry. Proven experience in negotiating supplier contracts and maintaining vendor relationships. Hands-on experience purchasing raw materials. Skills:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas required). Familiarity with Microsoft Access (query development a plus). Experience with ERP systems (usage or implementation) is highly desirable. Understanding of e-sourcing platforms and digital procurement tools. Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Excellent verbal and written communication. Experience working with logistics providers (e.g., FedEx, UPS, DHL).
