Highway & Roads Market Sector Director

Primary Responsibilities

Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR's matrix management structure that drive our business. The HDR Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is the largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures.

The primary responsibilities are divided into three areas:

  • Market leadership and business development (~70%)
  • Staff development (20%)
  • Support to Operations (10%)

The Director will set the vision for HDR’s strategy, support growth initiatives, develop staff, and coordinate with various leadership to achieve goals. They will also support business development, client management, and strategic growth outside the US, including in Canada, UK, Middle East, and Australia.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee creation and implementation of strategic vision
  • Serve as a client manager for key clients
  • Engage in projects as Principal-In-Charge
  • Promote HDR services to clients
  • Participate in industry associations and develop strategic partnerships

Staff Development

  • Lead an effective organization supporting client work and staff growth
  • Manage hiring, staffing, and performance reviews

Support to Operations

  • Assist in project delivery, monitor performance, and ensure quality

Qualifications

Preferred: 20+ years in highway/bridge planning or engineering, PE license, leadership in industry associations.

Required: Bachelor's in Engineering, 12+ years of experience, strong communication and business skills, active participation in employee-owned culture.
