Overview

You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT LEADER (EXPERT) in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Offers of employment related to this vacancy announcement will not be executed until the position has an approved exemption. Duties

You will lead a group of shipwrights of varying levels of experience and assure that all work assignments are carried out properly. You will serve as an expert on installing, maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of scaffolding, shoring systems and components. You will mentor trade employees in a wide range of work activities such as use of blueprints, specifications, and sketches to manufacture cradles and complex systems scaffolding builds. You will perform research to continually improve trade processes and keep shop personnel apprised of new technologies and procedures associated with shipwright work. You will give appropriate jobsite skills training and utilize other shop training tools. Requirements

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight. This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding. This position requires that the selectee work in small and/or confined spaces. This position is subject to an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement. Temporary appointments may be extended up to 3 years; temporary promotions may be extended up to 5 years. Temporary actions may be made permanent without further competition or terminated at any time.
