Open Rank- Clinical Faculty in Hematology and Oncology Job ID: 280217 Location: Augusta University Full/Part Time: Full Time Regular/Temporary: The Center for Blood Disorders at Augusta University (AU), part of the Georgia Cancer Center and the Medical College of Georgia (Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine), invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. Individuals with an interest in benign hematology are encouraged to apply. Board certification in Internal Medicine and Hematology is required. The candidate will participate in patient care, teaching, and research and is expected to work collaboratively and develop and participate in clinical trials. The Center for Blood Disorders focuses on adult inherited blood disorders including sickle cell disease, hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, and thrombosis, with a well-funded infrastructure for clinical care, a clinical research program, and an in-house molecular diagnostics laboratory. The AU Center for Blood Disorders has a history of NIH- and industry-funded clinical trials and sustained extramural funding. The Augusta University Hematology/Oncology division covers benign hematology, solid tumor oncology, hematological malignancies, BMT, and a fellowship program. AU also hosts the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics, the Center for Genomic Medicine and Biotechnology, the Vascular Biology Center, and the Immunotherapy Center, facilitating collaborative work. A competitive salary is offered, with an incentive plan tied to clinical productivity and/or research funding success. This position is not on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical investigators to develop a state-of-the-art research program and work with basic science investigators. Clinical duties span solid tumor oncology, benign hematology, hematological malignancies, BMT, and the fellowship program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Teaching/Instruction Give didactic lectures to Hematology/Oncology, Internal Medicine residents and medical students. Teach residents/fellows in the outpatient clinic setting. Participate actively in teaching activities within the Department of Medicine, including mentoring and advising medical students, residents and fellows in scheduled conferences. Participate in Department of Medicine, Cancer Service Line, Cancer Center educational conferences and activities. Research Participate in state-of-the-art Phase II/III clinical trials. Develop and serve as principal investigator for investigator-initiated clinical trials in benign hematology and related cancers. Collect and analyze data and present at national conferences. Develop nationally and internationally recognized scholarly activities including original scientific reports in high-impact peer-reviewed publications. Collaborate with Co-Leaders, clinical and basic scientists, and other investigators to develop clinical trials that enhance the department’s research portfolio. Metrics of clinical and research success will be developed with leadership on an annual basis. Patient Care (Clinical) Provide benign hematology care in the Center for Blood Disorders and other cancers in the Cancer Service Line. Provide 6 to 8 weeks of inpatient service and 4 to 5 half-days per week of outpatient clinic, which may include GCC, ASMP and outreach. Participate in care of benign hematology patients and grow hematology clinical and research programs. Engage in clinical outreach activities outside Augusta and cover other sites as required; may include travel to meet with referring physicians, groups or hospitals. Provide clinical supervision and consultation to hematology/oncology fellows, internal medicine residents and medical students. Clinical productivity measured by wRVUs; 75% of the adjusted benchmark in year 1 and 100% in year 2. Expected to generate approximately 3,403 work RVUs in hematology/oncology after the first full year and 4,537 RVUs after the second year, after adjustment for assigned clinical effort. Collaborate with Co-Leaders and other investigators to develop trials advancing the department’s clinical research portfolio. Serve on Department of Medicine and Cancer Center scientific and operational committees as requested. Maintain professional memberships (e.g., ASH, ASCO, GASCO) and present at medical oncology meetings.

Required Qualifications

MD, DO or equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Board eligibility in Medicine-Hematology/Oncology. Completed three-year Internal Medicine residency. Final candidate must provide proof of completed degree with original transcripts. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills. Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year-based and year-round. The intended work commitment is 1.0 FTE (full-time). Assistant Professor – Salary and compensation commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to funds availability.
