Overview The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is hiring a Communications Specialist 3. In this position you will serve as the agency’s lead strategist for visual communications, responsible for planning, developing, and managing high-impact design products that advance DCYF’s mission, equity goals, and public engagement strategies. As a subject matter expert, the incumbent advises executive leadership and program teams on visual messaging, accessibility, and brand alignment across platforms. The role requires deep expertise in visual storytelling, user-centered design, and inclusive communication practices, with authority to make independent decisions on design strategy, execution, and evaluation. This position will be in charge of creating a document management and workflow process for the agency, and managing and maintaining the software associated with that document management system.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience in managing public content and visual design. The following experience must demonstrate the following:

Extensive knowledge of Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Project management, electronic document management, and website content management such as Microsoft products and/or related software

Writing/text editing, photo editing, illustration/infographic creation, page layout design, and digital asset design.

Problem solving, leading strategy, navigating difficult conversations, brand management for a large organization and analysis and measurement of project outcomes, leading the work of vendors, and communicating complex messages.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s or associate degree in a related field

Experience collaborating with executive leaders and cross-functional teams

Strong background in branding and rebranding initiatives

Skilled in managing project workflows and digital assets

Familiarity with generative AI tools and technologies

Previous work in government or public sector settings

Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures
