Overview

Position: Custodian/Janitorial (Manatee County Parks and Beaches). Work is mostly outside; main responsibility is to ensure cleanliness of county parks and beaches. Location is based on needs of the County; floor schedule is Thursday – Monday, 11:00am – 4:00pm. Base pay range listed in the job post: $15.45/hr – $19.31/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general cleanliness of assigned County offices, buildings, parks, and beaches.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum floors; wash walls, windows, and fixtures; clean restrooms and stock supplies.
  • Trash collection and disposal; maintain cleanliness under desks and in debris-prone areas; report maintenance needs to the supervisor or maintenance department.
  • Perform custodial duties such as floor care (e.g., stripping floors) and window cleaning; assist with setup of displays or conference rooms as needed.
  • Possibly operate light-duty trucks for trash removal.
  • May supervise or train other staff on equipment use and custodial procedures.
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to co-workers and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of janitorial or custodial experience is highly desired; ability to read, write, understand and follow instructions is required.
  • Familiarity with power tools, equipment, and materials used in custodial services.
  • Valid Florida driver license required; license must be obtained/maintained within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Physical ability to lift 15–44 lbs repeatedly; good vision and hearing; ability to walk, stand, bend, reach overhead; occasional climbing of ladders.
  • Knowledge of cleaning processes, supplies, and equipment; safety precautions for cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow cleaning instructions; perform routine custodial duties with minimal supervision; ability to train and supervise others.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and adapt to duties in varied conditions (indoors with chemicals, outdoors in heat/cold, uneven surfaces, and potential exposure to odors).

Working Conditions

  • Constant: indoor work with chemicals/solvents; frequent use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Occasional: outdoor work in heat, cold, high humidity, damp or dusty conditions; uneven surfaces; ladders/scaffolding; high places; poor ventilation.
