The Disabled Students Program (DSP) promotes an inclusive environment for students with disabilities and provides accommodations and services to help students achieve their academic goals. DSP also manages a federal grant via the Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services program. The DSP Scholars SSS Learning Specialist role works in a complex environment where services are mandated by federal and state law and demand increases each year. Position Summary

This position involves planning, developing, and implementing programs, processes, and activities for DSP Scholars SSS students with disabilities in accordance with federal and state law. The DSP Scholars SSS Learning Specialist coordinates grant-required services to students with disabilities, provides direct services to 250 students, and carries an academic advising caseload of 125 DSP Scholars SSS students. The role works in an interdisciplinary team to ensure access to the academic and campus environment. Responsibilities

One-on-one tutoring, coaching, and academic support for study skills, time management, test preparation, and other academic challenges. Manage a caseload of 125 students and provide academic support to 250 students through virtual and in-person workshops and group settings. Assist with daily supervision, hiring, and training of six or more academic coaches and tutors. Under the direction of the DSP Scholar Director, recruit participants by participating in on-campus recruitment events, conducting interviews, and creating student success plans. Work independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality; work flexible hours (occasional evenings and weekends) as required. Collaborate with the Disability Specialist and other student support services to design strategies supporting students with diverse learning styles and abilities. Provide student learning and outcomes assessments for all contacts and DSP Scholar programming. Organize and lead workshops on study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, reading comprehension, and writing skills (group and individual formats). Design and develop new initiatives using evidence-based practices to meet evolving needs of diverse student populations. Work with disability specialists, academic advisors, counselors, and other student services staff to identify students who may benefit from academic support and ensure appropriate referrals. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to design and implement innovative strategies to enhance student learning and success. Build positive relations within the team and with campus stakeholders to support program activities. Provide a welcoming and safe environment for students and staff in the Scholars program. Attend campus events to support students, staff, and faculty; maintain records of counseling and coaching sessions and prepare activity reports. Coordinate with the Student Support Service Coordinator to produce monthly newsletters and manage program activities and spaces. Promote and assist students in using assistive technology tools (e.g., text-to-speech, screen readers, note-taking tools). Track and monitor students’ academic progress; document tutoring sessions and provide regular reports to the Director and administration on outcomes and effectiveness. Provide administrative support to the DSP Scholar Program and develop evaluative reports. Keep program information current on DSP Scholars web pages and related communications; ensure accessibility and consistency. Serve as a resource and advocate for students in navigating accommodations and support resources. Develop strategies to actively engage students, fostering community and belonging; use personalized support, interactive activities, and feedback to sustain motivation and retention. Stay current with best practices in learning support, educational technology, and student success; attend relevant workshops and trainings. Required Qualifications

Strong knowledge of learning theories, educational psychology, and instructional strategies for diverse learners. Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with diverse student populations and collaborate across departments. Compassionate and patient approach to students with varied needs and backgrounds. Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize student support activities. Ability to inspire and encourage students to reach their academic potential. Supervise Peer Academic Coaches/Tutors. Proficiency with learning management systems and other educational software. Minimum two years of relevant experience with students with multiple disabilities. Experience in program development, implementation, assessment and reporting. Experience coordinating academic support programming for students with disabilities. Experience as a learning specialist providing academic support to students with learning differences. Experience in programming, advisement, retention and outreach for low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities. Ability to recruit, train, and supervise student academic coaches. Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced team environment with competing priorities. Knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and Section 504; related compliance awareness. Advanced computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, enterprise systems). Ability to thrive in a complex, student-focused environment and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent oral and written communication to convey student needs and responsibilities to faculty, staff, and students. Cultural proficiency in serving students from varied backgrounds. Proficiency in both Mac and PC environments. Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications

Minimum two years of relevant experience with students with multiple disabilities, preferably in a postsecondary setting. Experience coordinating academic support programming for students with disabilities in a postsecondary setting. Salary & Benefits
