Location: Wayfinder Newport (Newport, Rhode Island)

Overview: The Housekeeping Manager performs inspection duties in accordance with company standards for satisfactory performance.

Essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Follow the instructions of the General Manager to maintain company standards of cleanliness throughout the rooms section.
  • Relay information concerning the status of rooms to and from the housekeeping office, as well as the front desk.
  • Assign work to housekeeping staff and train staff in housekeeping duties.
  • Address guest complaints regarding housekeeping service.
  • Report needs for room repairs to Engineering.
  • Examine rooms, including carpets, drapes, and furniture, for stains, damage, or wear.
  • Check and count linens and supplies and communicate needs to the housekeeping team.
  • Record inspection results and inform housekeeping staff of inadequacies.
  • Verify staffing levels are appropriate for business demand.
  • Operate hotel property management and guest management systems.
  • Handle lost and found inquiries and all relevant procedures.
  • Check all rooms including vacant, expected departure, and discrepant rooms.
  • Issue and inventory staff keys.
  • Communicate with appropriate departments and vendors when necessary.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings.
  • Clean rooms and assist in laundry when necessary.
  • Inspect linen closets and storage areas.

Supervisory responsibilities: Directly supervises hourly housekeeping staff and supports interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, performance appraisal, and employee relations in accordance with company policy and law.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience: College degree preferred. At least three years of housekeeping leadership experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Clear communication with guests, customers, supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze routine data to make judgments about inspecting/cleaning guest rooms and supervision duties.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to push/pull/lift up to 50 pounds; frequent use of arms, hands, and fingers; walking, standing, crouching, kneeling as required.
  • Hours: Seasonal nature of hospitality; may require rotating shifts, night shifts, and/or overtime. Hours may be reduced depending on season.

Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $65,000.00/year to $70,000.00/year, based on qualifications and experience.
