About The Position Job Title: Labor & Delivery Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Current Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN - Advanced Must-Have: CERNER experience preferred. Comfortable taking 2 patients per shift. Experience with C-sections and high-risk deliveries. Strong knowledge of labor and delivery protocols. Description: The unit has 12 labor and delivery beds and 6 triage beds. Ratios follow ACOG Guidelines (2:1). Nurses are required to chart everything, as this is not by exception only. Nurse aides are not available; however, OB techs assist with C-sections and infant care. Charge nurses are present around the clock and do not take patients. Shifts are 12 hours with breaks compliant with California law. Weekends usually require working every other weekend. Scrubs are provided by the facility. Telemetry is available post-surgery for C-section patients. No elective surgeries are performed on the unit, except for emergency situations. The team manages high-risk patients, including multiple births up to triplets. Nurses must be comfortable with running insulin and magnesium drips. There is a level 3 NICU that attends high-risk deliveries. The unit is fast-paced, with over 300 deliveries each month. This is a closed unit with no floating. Cancellation policy allows for a limited number of shifts to be canceled during the assignment.
