Engineer/Architect 1 / Technical Engineer/Architect 1 Flex (Bridge Engineer) role with the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Bridge Section in Juneau, AK. The position involves structural engineering analysis, bridge inspections, and related bridge design/retrofit tasks to support Alaska’s infrastructure and Keep Alaska Moving initiative. Base Salary Information
Engineer/Architect 1: $3,633.00 biweekly (OT Ineligible). Technical Engineer 1/Architect 1: $4,158.75 biweekly (OT Ineligible). Responsibilities
Perform structural engineering analysis and calculations to determine safe load-carrying capacity of bridges. Evaluate overloaded (permit) vehicles and identify weight restriction requirements (load posting values). Complete bridge safety inspections, including routine, nonredundant steel tension member (NSTM), low water, and in-depth inspections. Participate in bridge management, design, and retrofit tasks as needed. What We Are Looking For / Qualifications
Structural Engineering: knowledge of design/analysis of complex structures using various materials; structures may include aerospace systems or other determinate/indeterminate systems. Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: ability to use a logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities. Written Communication: ability to write clearly and concisely for the intended audience. Special Note: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) or architect; travel within the state (typically 2–4 trips per year); inspection from elevated platforms may be required. Licensing and Certification
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect; if not registered in Alaska, comity eligibility with AS 08.48.191(b) and requirement to become registered in Alaska within one year of hire. For Technical Engineer 1 / Architect 1: PE or Architect registration and two years of relevant experience with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere. Application Requirements
