Vice President for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer . The University of Alabama at Birmingham, in partnership with Korn Ferry, seeks a strategic leader to join the President’s Cabinet and oversee the university’s information technology strategy and operations. The CIO will ensure technology supports UAB’s academic, research, clinical, and administrative missions, drive a data-driven transformation, and champion a unified data strategy, governance, and advanced analytics to inform planning, decision-making, and innovation across the campus and health system. The CIO will partner with senior leaders, faculty, staff, and health system executives to deliver secure, reliable, and forward-looking technology solutions that foster collaboration and enhance institutional performance. The role includes advancing IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, data-informed decision-making, and investments aligned with emerging needs, including opportunities presented by artificial intelligence. Responsibilities and goals
Responsibilities include guiding UAB’s transformation into a data-driven institution, developing and leading the IT strategy, ensuring reliable technology operations, and promoting secure, innovative solutions that support teaching, research, patient care, and administration. The CIO will lead enterprise-wide IT governance, collaborate with academic and clinical leadership, and steward technology investments to anticipate evolving needs. Qualifications
At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a research-intensive university, academic medical center, or similarly complex environment. Proven track record in leading enterprise-wide IT strategy and operations, data governance, and emerging technologies. Experience building and leading high-performing teams and managing large-scale technology transformations. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Application process
